throughout the play, Macbeth deals with being manipulated into committing heinous crimes that gets him and Lady Macbeth what they deeply wish for. I believe that Macbeth was a victim in this instance because because the witches had told him a prophecy that appealed to him. also, his wife Lady Macbeth manipulated him for her own greedy desires causing Macbeth to make bad decisions. Macbeth was led to believe that killing people would lead him to becoming king. keep believe this because the witches had told him a phrophecy that stated "all hail, Macbeth that shalt be king hereafter." The witches promised Macbeth that he'd be made king after King's Duncan death. he trusted the witch's prophecy because the witches said he would be king which was appealing to him. Lady Macbeth knew all the best ways to get into Macbeth's head. she knew he cared about his self image, so she would say things like " when you dirst do it, then you were a man... you would be so much more than a man" act I sceen 7 lines 56-58. Lady Macbeth knows that if King Duncan is dead she will be queen even if that means Macbeth has to man up and killed Duncan himself. she also implies he would be a coward for not doing it " but screw your courage to the sicking place and we'll not fail." if he doesn't go through with the plan, his wife will see him as a coward. that is likely to make her upset with him and he will forever regret not doing it to make her happy. some might argue that he was a victim of his own character; he has free will got his social status is less important so he shouldn't have listened to a prophecy or his wife. this argument is understandable because most would not think too much about social status though for Macbeth self-image is a vital phenomenon. although the opposing side has appointment, that is a victim in the way he was
