The American Dreams Existence There are many people who have given up everything they have in order to be able to come to America. People from all over the world come to America, looking for the answers to their own American Dream. Everybody has their own idea of what the American Dream really is and different ways of being able to achieve it. The American Dream can be having a better job, house, life, future, it can be having the freedom that was not offered in their homelands. Having safety and a college education with financial help can be part of many people's dreams. America has offered many things to immigrants and citizens that places all around the world do not. In the article, Is the American Dream Still Possible? by David Wallechinsky he talks about whether being able to achieve one's own American Dream can still be possible or not. In his article he states, “Today, despite having a college education, Randy works for $9 an hour finding community jobs for mentally challenged adults.” Randy only earns $9 an hour and he's working for mentally challenged adults which isn't one of the easier jobs, it can be very stressful and have many challenges while working with these adults. Many people believe if they go to college and have a college education they will have a better job and better salaries than those who don't have a college education. Here as Wallechinsky talks about a person who only gets $9 an hour, he's saying people with a college education are supposed to be getting paid more, many immigrants and citizens have the American Dream of getting an education and getting paid more. They do not want to be wasting so much money going to college and end up getting paid the same amount as those who do not attend college. People with this American Dream may sometimes not be able to achieve it today with the jobs situations in America. In his article he also states, “For her part, Michelle earned six small scholarships, two of which are renewable for next year, and took out a federal loan.” Earning a scholarship to college can be a huge help, no matter how small the scholarships are, money will always be money. Michelle earning six scholarships was probably of great financial help for her and her family. Many immigrants and U.S citizens can have the dream of being able to attend college, people come to America for some of the best universities and U.S citizens also grow up dreaming of attending these schools.
