Electronic cigarettes have been around for about a decade. No one is sure of what havoc they can cause yet because of how new they are in existence. Throughout the past years more and more issues have been arising from this product that was originally assumed to be harmless. Now society is faced with the question of whether or not they as safe as the general public thought or should increase investigation to see what they are really capable of. So far researchers have discovered many issues with the electronic cigarettes and every month more and more issues begin the surface. In 2007 Electronic cigarettes were introduced to the U.S.September 2008 the World Health Organization (WHO) claims that it does not consider the electronic cigarette to be a legitimate smoking cessation aid and demands that marketers immediately remove from their materials any suggestions that the WHO considers electronic cigarettes safe and effective. By August 2011 a Study published in the journal "Addiction" provides strong evidence that electronic cigarettes are successfully used by many smokers to quit smoking or cut down substantially on the number of cigarettes they smoke, and that e-cigarettes are successfully helping many ex-smokers to remain off cigarettes(CASAA, 2012).The Electronic cigarettes became popular because of many factors . One of those factors is the loss in popularity of the traditional tobacco cigarette , the health issues caused by the cigarettes and the media’s involvement in anti smoking ads and movements greatly influenced this change. The user will then inhale the vaporized liquid coming from the opening at the top of the electronic cigarette . After that they exhale the vapor into the atmosphere.Electronic cigarettes includes a rechargeable battery that can be removed ,charged and then reassembled onto the device for further use. The cartridge compartment in the cigarettes is to change the cartridges so that the users can change up the flavor and nicotine content of the vapor released from the cigarette. Just like traditional cigarettes electronic cigarettes do emit fumes and other material into the environment through the vapor released . Those substances can cause second hand vape to anyone near the vaper. Similar to secondhand smoke the second hand vape will affect anyone around the user.Another issue is that adolescents are swallowing the fluid from inside the flavor cartridges and they are being poisoned by it. “The amount of calls to poison centers with poisoning from e-cigarette liquids increased from one per month in September 2010 to 215 per month in February 2014.
