It is very hard for a family to accept that they lost their loved ones because of murder. Some families may be able to go through the grieving process while some may not. Some may seek for justice while some may lose their hope that they may not get the justice that their loved ones deserved. Probably because of the lack of effective criminal justice system. The death of loved ones can be traumatic.
My passion lies in helping underrepresented and marginalized groups who face oppression and injustices by dominant society, like Bryan, and this realization of just how many lives are affected by capital punishment makes me consider studying this particular field, as well. It is easy to simply right off these people and define them by their actions, without realizing that they too are someone’s child, sibling, partner, friend, and/ or parent. One thing that really stood out to me was that when these death row inmates’ families come to visit, they have to sit behind a glass window, as if their loved one is potentially dangerous to them. However, when they are meeting with a paralegal or a lawyer, then they are allowed to sit together, without any barrier, which only emphasizes just how inhumane these inmates are treated and disregarded as. This also shows how money is much more valuable to the state than their ideas of family and
For most people, only the person involved in the encounter are labeled as victims. The pain comes in from the view of one who feels the full effects of the ordeal. However, there is more to the scope of victims than the person directly involved in the crime. Debra narrates how much her family participates in events following up her kidnap and her husband’s murder. Family members would like to see the perpetrator get the death penalty.
Two terrified children, scarred for life, greeted James in tears as he arrived at the crime scene. It was April 18th, 1980, and F.B.I. agent James Washington had been assigned to the case of a man who fled while out on bond, and then turned up dead in the middle of the woods. Unfortunately, those two children had been playing in the forest after a rough storm and stumbled upon the victim, Mr. Richard Strout. Agent Washington will not find the killer anywhere he would expect, however, for the real killer of Richard Strout was the legal system. Who was Richard Strout?
Some criminals deserve to die because they should not have the privilege to live 30 years after, from being sentenced to death for committing first degree murder. For example, there has been a case, in 1984, where Kermit Alexander’s family was murdered. As a matter of fact, the criminals have not been executed since they have received the death sentence.
Upon the murder of the well-respected family, many
Especially in Iran, the government did not have the authority to condemn the killer. The family did. For killers, young or old were persecuted. Killers are humans as well and they should deserve a second chance. Mercy from these families can be able to give out a second chance in life.
Murder can be defined as “the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another”. How then, are others able to make us sympathize with not only murderers, but people who have committed horrendous crimes? For example, the media is constantly attempting to humanize rapists and even terrorists with phrases like “lone wolf” or “alienated and adrift.” Such phrases make some of us want to pity the criminal. This can be seen when we compare Perry Smith and Dick Hickock from Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood.
Murder victims are increasingly harmed by the continuing life of their murderers. 3. Therefore, we have a prima facie duty to rescue murder victims by promptly ending the lives of their murderers.
Support for capital punishment requires valuing retribution over rehabilitation. Those who favor capital punishment value highly the closure it provides to the families of the victims, and they believe that it deters would be murderers from killing. Retribution, closure and deterrence are the main reasons in favor of the death penalty. Opponents of capital punishment generally believe that it is hypocritical and immoral for the state
Conor Hill Professor Kenneth Cruz CCJ 250 Criminology 10 October 2015 Paper #1 “A Vicious Cycle” is a short clip from a television show that was uploaded onto YouTube on January 8, 2014. The segment watched is the first of three that begins by profiling many families in the city of St. Louis who lost loved ones to homicide. The video connects to the audience pathos by proving that by losing a family member, the “wounds are deep” and “they may never heal”. These wounds of course are those on the families and on the community around them. These violent crimes that take place are destroying the lives of many people in the community.
Prison Royale In today's society we decide that those who bring up as much as the notion of killing someone then they themselves must deserve death. This creates a cycle of people killing each other, all because we killed one person. We think killing is wrong but when push comes to shove we aren't afraid to see someone lynched for their own actions all because we think, “We kill people who kill people, due to the illegitimate nature of it.”
In the United States, the death penalty is often used unfairly in situations where it is clear that the defendant is not guilty of the crime or that the defendant is not deserving of the punishment. The appropriate use of the death penalty is very subjective. This is due to the fact that there are very few guidelines, and it is mostly up to the jury and judge to decide whether or not to impose the death penalty when the defendant is guilty of a capital crime. The judge can look at many factors, such as history, the regret of the crime, and the nature of the crime when deciding (U.S. Dept. of Justice). Additionally, in 2009, all five of the women who were on Alabama's death row were condemned for the unexplained deaths of their young children, spouses, or boyfriends.
They do not think that they vote for a fellow human being to be killed. Death penalty and the egoistic mindset humans have is proof that humanity is starting to fade. It needs to be pointed out that the public support of death penalty has a huge effect on either it will stay or not. In conclusion, I would like to add that we are all humans and we should be treated that way.
The Death Penalty, loss of life due to previous crimes and actions, is believed by some to be extremely costly, inhumane, and cruel unlike some others whom believe it is just, right, and provides closure. The Death Penalty is not a quick and easy process. Most who get sentenced to deaths row wait years for their ultimate punishment of death. Some believe that it is not right to punish and kill a human for actions they have done because, they believe that the inmate should have another chance. Then others believe that it is right to punish someone for their actions especially if their actions involve killing another or multiple humans.
