Have you ever spent your whole life growing up in 1 spot, then one day you find out someone is trying to get rid of it? That is exactly what Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah are going through in the book It’s Not Summer Without You. It’s not Summer Without You is the second book in the series The Summer I Turned Pretty. This book is about Belly’s life as it being the first summer without Susannah. Belly and everyone who was close to Susannah is grieving about her death. Belly gets a call from Jeremiah saying that Conrad is gone and at the summer house so Belly and Jeremiah go to the summer house. They find Conrad there and he does not want to go back to school, and then one day, a real estate agent comes and says that they are selling the house, …show more content…
Belly had always liked Conrad growing up and when he and her started to date in the last book The Summer I Turned Pretty it was amazing for Belly. She had always dreamed of being with Conrad and it came true, but when he broke up with her at prom it was very hard (Han) (Pg. 84). Taylor kept trying to push Belly to get with a kid named Cory, but Belly didn't want to because it wasn’t Conrad (Han) (Pg. 16). Conrad was basically Belly’s first love, and when they were over it hurt her, but she has to realize that they either aren’t meant to be together, or it was the right person at the wrong time. In the book Belly ends up kissing Jeremiah and they catch feelings for each other and it finally distracts her from Conrad, until Conrad sees them and he tells Belly that their relationship was nothing to him (Han) (Pg. 262-264). It could have also been the right person at the wrong time because when Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad are at the hotel, Conrad tells Belly that he didn't mean what he said earlier (Han) (Pg. 270). Even though a part of Belly would probably always like Conrad, she can’t because it can hold her back from possibly meaning the person who she will spend the rest of her life with, or even ruin her relationship with Jeremiah, since they become a …show more content…
All Belly can think about is how she isn't at the beach house this summer anymore (Han) (Pg.2). Even when Belly was at the house she didn’t feel as if it was right because her mom, Steven, and Susannah weren’t there, but she wished they were all there. Belly missed her brother not being there especially after she had the incident with Conrad and Jeremiah (Han) (Pg. 269). Most people after highschool go to college and life after they leave isn't the same, and I think this is what is happening in the book. Both Conrad and Steven are in college, and Belly and Jeremiah are getting toward the end of their highschool years. None of them are going to have the same hobbies as when they were younger, or they won't enjoy the old games and activities they used to do all together. I think that Belly doesn’t want everyone to get older because she still loves how she would spend her summers as a young girl. Even if they do certain things the same as their childhood, it won't be the same and it will just bring back memories. Overall I think that sometimes with change in a place or with people you don't want it to happen because you are the old memories but life has to go on and it will
