Diversity through Genre Jenny Han once said, “There is power in seeing a face that looks like yours, do something, be someone. There is power in moving from the sidelines to the center.” Han is an Asian American author of young adult fiction, and she is especially known for the book and TV series, The Summer I turned Pretty. Han is an intentional and thoughtful writer. Her quote expresses that there is power in creating change. Being Asian American, it is especially important to be confident to be the best version of yourself that you can be. Throughout Jenny Han’s life she has consistently believed that there needs to be more diversity in genre through work and writing.
