Jabberwocky is a nonsense poem written by Lewis Carroll in the 1800s that uses a combination of neologisms (new words/expressions) and portmanteaus (combinations of two words) to create an entertaining and unique piece of literature. Additionally, behind Carroll’s outlandish language is a “hero defeating the monster” type of story that we all know and love. In the beginning of the story, the protagonist acquired the vorpal sword. We can infer that this weapon is the only thing that can kill the Jabberwock. Sword in hand, the hero rested and waited for the beast to appear. As soon as the menacing Jabberwock arrived, the protagonist, wielding the vorpal sword, attacked the monster and defeated it. Taking its head as proof, the hero triumphantly
