Jack (Jackie) Roosevelt Robinson is the person of the twentieth century as he is a legend beyond baseball. By playing baseball for so many years, he was able to prove that he was a remarkable baseball player. Robinson was also able to win numerous awards for all of his accomplishments. With all of the racial tension going on at the time, he was constantly fighting for the rights of colored people. One of the greatest baseball players of all time is Jackie Robinson.
Jackie Robinson is seen as a very talented baseball player. Throughout all of his baseball career, Robinson was known for stealing bases. In the world series of 1955, he “...stole home, right under the glove of catcher Yogi Berra!” (Herman, 88). He also had the National League record for most stolen bases in 1947 and 1949.

He had a substantial influence on people so there were many people that “...traveled long distances to see him enter the Baseball Hall of Fame.” (Herman, 2) It is a massive honor to get into the Hall of Fame and he was able to get in just six years after he retired. Because of the extraordinary way Robinson was playing his first year, “He was named Rookie of the Year - the first one ever.” (Herman, 81) Since Robinson showed astonishing skills as a rookie, there was a new award made that year to be given to the person who played the best as a rookie, which was Jackie Robinson in 1947. He also was bestowed awards that were not connected to baseball. “After his death, Jackie Robinson received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This award is granted to people who have made our country better.” (Herman, 100) Many incredible people have received the Medal of Freedom, and Robinson is part of the elite group that have it.
