Despite the abuse Jackie went on the lead the farm league in batting average and fielding percentage, finally earning him a well deserved spot on the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson played his first game at Ebbets Field for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947. Thus day changed history as he became the first African American to play Major League Baseball. The racial harassment did not stop though. Other teams and coaches began to try to make fun of Jackie and get in his head.
Jackie Robinson was the first African American player in the MLB (Major League Baseball.) Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919. In the early 1940´s Robinson met nurse-in-training Rachel Isum Robinson, while they were both attending the University of California. Robinson fought very hard to play on an all white MLB team called the Brooklyn Dodgers and eventually made it in 1947. Jackie Robinson was an amazing baseball player with a batting average of .311, 137 homeruns, 197 stolen bases, and .409 on base percentage!

He played for 2 teams before the Brooklyn Dodgers: The Kansas City Monarchs and the Montreal Royals. But when he was playing for the Montreal Royals, he was called up from Rickey, the president for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Coming out out of college, Jackie was rejected by the Boston Red Sox, he then went off to serve in the military, Jackie was soon promoted to 2nd lieutenant, and after got platoon leader. On August 28, 1945 he met with Branch Rickey. Then on October 23, 1945 Jackie Robinson signed a contract to play with the Montreal Royals of the International League.

Jackie Robinson is most known for his outstanding achievements in baseball, but what most people don't know is his achievements in all other aspects of life. Jackie was harassed, picked on, and beaten up for playing the game he loved; Robinson did what he did because he believed that life was bigger than the color of your skin or the number on your back.
