Thesis Statement: Jacob Riis lived for finding work,soon he received the best job, looking through the lens of a camera, to see the things that Americans never cared to see.

Neil Edward Riis and Caroline Riis are the parents of Jacob Riis.Jacob was the third child out of fifteen children.Jacob's father was an educator as well as an occasional writer. Jacob’s mother was a homemaker.Neil Riss wanted his son to grow up to take a literary career, but instead he became a carpenter.Neil and Caroline wanted the best for their son, they wanted him to do what he was raised in, but he wanted something else ( Jacob Riis Biography, n,d).

After Jacob left his birthplace, Ribe Denmark, Jacob struggled plenty with keeping a steady job(Jacob Riis Biography,n,d). No later, after thousands of people were talking about his speeches. Very soon he was invited to Scribner’s Magazine by the editor, to enter an article. Riis worked very hard to make the people love what he did, to show them everything that was going on.

Riis introduces “ How the Other Half Lives”.In 1889, he accepted an eighteen page article named “ How the Other Half Lives”.This master piece included nineteen amazing photographs he took himself and line drawings.After the interview they decide it was a great time to publish this amazing story.In between two and three years later Riis was going to work on a sequel “ Children of the Poor”, which talked about the children that lived in slums and povertity. With him working so hard his stories were coming out and people were starting to realize what was going on in
