The Explorer Jacques Cousteau
Jacques Cousteau, a great deep sea explorer once said, “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever” (www.brainyquote.com). For as long as time there have been people wanting to explore the unknown. There have been many famous explorers that have explored the clouds and the universe. Jacques Cousteau wanted to look underneath the surface and explore the wet world down below. Jacques Cousteau’s life was very different. He explored the unknown, spreaded his discoveries, and people inspired to be him.
Jacques Cousteau’s early life was very different from ours today. Jacques went to a normal school, but eventually he was sent to boarding school. Biography’s website says,“At 13, He was sent to boarding school in Alsace, France” (www.biography.com). One of his inventions was a device called the aqua-lung. Britana.org says, “In 1943 Cousteau and French engineer Émile Gagnan developed the first fully automatic compressed-air Aqua-Lung (scuba apparatus), which allowed divers to swim freely underwater for extended periods of time” (www.britannica.com). During his time in the navy he invented many things with his partner Émile Gagnan. The aqua lung was the invention that he was most known for and many people use it today. The aqua-lung is the main part of the scuba diving device. Cousteau didn’t just invent things for the ocean but he explored with them. He went on many expeditions during his life. The very same site explains that, “He led the Conshelf Saturation Dive Program, conducting experiments in which men lived and worked for extended periods of time at considerable depths along the continental shelves”
