Juveniles are sent to Juvy while awaiting court hearings. They are also placed there long term or in programs. Juveniles are placed through a separate court system than other adult inmates. The juvenile court is what they go through instead. After being placed in Juvy for a specific time, some juveniles are released back into the community directly. They then go through community-based rehabilitation programs. Other juveniles may pose a bigger threat to themselves or to society. They are then needed to stay in a supervised juvenile detention center. Overall, there are many different pathways for juveniles once they are processed in Juvy.
