To understand the difference of life inside and out of prison, you must first have an understanding of what prison is and the different aspects and experiences of it. Prison is a vessel or building where people are held as a punishment for crimes that they have committed. People might also be held in prison while awaiting a trial. People often get prison and jail mixed up. The both are very similar and share many traits. Jail is a short-term facility that is locally operated. On the other hand, Prison is a long-term facility that Is located in different places. Prison is also federally and/or state operated. Jails have serve one purpose in particular. Juvy is also known as a youth detention center. However, a juvenile relates to a young person or a minor. Juvy is a secure residential center for said juveniles. Juveniles are sent to Juvy while awaiting court hearings. They are also placed there long term or in programs. Juveniles are placed through a separate court system than other adult inmates. The juvenile court is what they go through instead. After being placed in Juvy for a specific time, some juveniles are released back into the community directly. They then go through community-based rehabilitation programs. Other juveniles may pose a bigger threat to themselves or to society. They are then needed to stay in a supervised juvenile detention center. Overall, there are many different pathways for juveniles once they are processed in Juvy. They are there to provide temporary care for delinquents or alleged delinquents. Said delinquents require some type of secure custody. During that custody the delinquents have pending placement or court disposition. While the delinquent youth are detained, they are provided with services that assist their needs. Services such as medical and mental health, religious activities (voluntarily), and visitation with their families. The secured detention facility has serves no intention to provide treatment or change in the juvenile’s life. The facilities main purpose is to ensure that the delinquent shows up for court without any harm or danger to themselves or to others. A secured confinement is basically the same thing. Confinement is just the action or state of being contained or kept in a situation or a place. The next type of prison that I want to cover is minimum, medium and maximum security prisons. Minimum prisons are known to be one of the most wanted type of prison that an inmate who has been sentenced would want to go. The staff are known to be less stressed out. They are also known to have limited or no fencing. If an inmate walks off, then they are considered escaped and can be moved to a higher secured institution. As well as zero violence. The institutions are work and program oriented. The living is dorm-styled. Some inmates even drive cars on institution
