The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire On March 25, 1911, 123 women and 23 men, died as a result of a fire in a factory they worked in. That day was marked as the deadliest industrial disaster in Manhattan history. In the wake of such a terrible tragedy came the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU). The ILGWU fought for better working conditions for all sweatshop workers. However, the union wouldn’t gain attention until after the owners of the Triangle Waist Company, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, were indicted on first and second degree manslaughter, but were ultimately found to be not guilty.
After talking to Aubrey Rubenstein James Mcbride learns that all jews had moved out of the area says Mcbride. John Robert Lewis was born February 21,1940, Outside of Troy, Alabama. John Robert Lewis had a happy childhood, even though he needed to work hard to assist his sharecropper parents be he chafed against the unfairness of segregation. As I sat down with John Robert Lewis and among my other peers he shared with us everything about his childhood, his job as a sharecropper was to raise the chickens. He did he job very good and he enjoyed raising them chickens. Him and his siblings would gather the chickens all together and John Lewis would preach as of the chickens knew what he was saying.

Etta James was born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles and had a very tumultuous childhood as she was brought up by foster parents who ill-treated her. By the age of 5, she was known as a gospel prodigy, gaining fame by singing in her church choir and on the radio. At 12, she moved north to San Francisco, formed a trio and was soon working for band leader Johnny Otis. Four years later, she recorded, Roll with Me Henry, with the Otis band. James’ solo career was a slow starter, and she spent several years cutting low-selling singles for Modern and touring small clubs until 1960, when Leonard Chess signed her to a new record deal.
To slave a person is the most inhumane act one can commit, and unfortunately was very popular during the 18th century. However, have you ever wondered the different impacts slavery caused between men and women? Both Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs showcase, through their writings, the horrors of slavery, and contrast the many similarities and import differences between the experience of slavery between genders. One of the similarities of slavery for both genders was their allowances. Both men and women were only allowed a certain amount of food and clothing to survive throughout a year.
Black workers formed Revolutionary Union Movements within Detroit auto factories in the late 1960s as a means of organizing and protecting the black worker. At that time, black people were blue-collar workers, not skilled tradesman or white-collar workers, and often worked in factories as the “transformation of sweat and blood”. They realized that since they were overwhelmingly employed in these jobs, with upwards of 80-90% in some plants, they could cause a major disruption through work stoppages, causing plants to, “cease function”, and interrupting the, “money flow”. With this story, Larmour presents a fairly obvious contrast between the types of hustles, and these two types of people that partake in these hustles. The inmates that are on the forefront of these illegal hustles tend to be looking for “lucrative” jobs or are just plain crazy like the “vultures” that scoop up guards’ spit out tobacco to make cigarettes. Then there are the inmates that strive to make their money doing “positive” hustles because they do it more for the people that they are around rather than for “their desire for money.” This contrast between the inmates can tell us more about our society. As a society we almost like to glorify the negatives that occur within our society, rather than focusing upon the positives.
