Throughout September and October I have had the chance to delve into the realms of many books. However the book that I chose to do my project on is The Maze Runner . The Maze Runner was written by James Dashner and is 375 pages in length. The book is set in a dystopian future, where Thomas must fight for his survival in a quest to solve the unsolvable maze with help from his new friends the Gladers and Theresa. In the exposition of the novel, Thomas finds itself in the Glade with no memory of his past life. Thomas is told that it is usual for there to be a “newbie” each month. He soon realizes that all the inhabitants of the Glade are boys and that none of them are adults and are all under 18. He himself is merely 16 years …show more content…

So everyone tries to go back to their routines ignoring her warning. Thomas’s ambition is to become a Runner and help solve the Maze. He befriends Minho a Runner who reported a dead Griever, Minho and Alby (the leader of the Glade) go to investigate. When they return it is almost sundown and Alby has been stung by a Griever. Thomas slips through the cracks of the closing doors which have locked him, Minho, Alby and the Grievers inside the maze. No one has ever survived a night in the maze with the Grievers, yet Thomas with the help of Minho manages to outwit the Grievers and all three are still alive at sunrise. After that harrowing experience, Minho agrees to train Thomas as a Runner. During these events Theresa has woken up from her coma and Tom realizes that they have telepathic powers. As she wakes up she says three things, one WICKED is Good, two the Maze is a code and three is that she has triggered the ending. That same night the four doors stop closing leaving the Gladers at the Mercy of the Grievers. Gally a boy who was exiled to the Maze and thought to be returns and says the Grievers will take one life each night until the end. Afterwards Thomas realizes that maybe there is a pattern in the previous maps and as they are layered he discovers they make letters.
