Life can be unfair but you should always be prepared for anything. Similarly, in the dystopian world of the Maze Runner by James Dashner the character of Thomas starts off with him confused and struggling to fit in the new environment he was put into, by soon he learns how to survive the Glade by preparing himself for the maze and attempting to escape it. Prior to the conflict, Thomas was a nobody, he was just another boy coming from the elevator every month, all he tried to do was to fit in and prepare himself for surviving the Glade. During the conflict, Thomas becomes more involved with the rest of the Gladers and discovers his connection with a new girl. Also during the conflict Thomas a vital member of the Gladers since he started figuring out their purpose of being placed in the Glade and prepares them to escape it. After the conflict Thomas is a completely different boy he is braver and has finally figured out how the system works in the Glades. These changes in Thomas impacts his traits which allow him to not only change as a person but change as a Glader. After the conflict Thomas figured out a way to escape the maze through seeing the patterns of the maze and they escape through the hole grievers come in. After escaping the Gladers discover that this was a test, only a mere experiment for the sake of humanity. This is because there is a disease that wiped out half of the world's entire population and they’re their only hope in finding a cure. The Gladers are described as “ toys abandoned in the woods for years, recently discovered by the next generation of kids ready to play war.” (203) This is because after surviving the Glade they now have to face the new challenge that awaits that is critical to the human
