James Gatz or also known as “ The Great Gatsby”, originated from poor farmers. James constantly fantasized about being rich. To James, this was the american dream. To make this dream come true, he pondered ways to accomplish it. James staring deliberating plan to obtain his wealthy dream. James started working for Dan Cody, a wealthy man on a yacht. James was Dan Cody's personal assistant. Dan Cody later died because he was an alcoholic. On page 108 Dan Cody leaves James twenty-five thousand dollars. “And it was from Cody that he inherited money-a legacy of twenty-five thousands dollars. He didn't get it.” James does not get the money because Dan Cody's mistress takes the money instead. James fell in love with all the luxuries of being rich. James became an officer for the war and was stationed at Fort Taylor where he meet a girl named Daisy. They fell in love but short after separated because James was gone for too long and James was not wealthy. …show more content…

James had to be wealthy in order to gain back the love of Daisy. James returns from the war and deticates the next year obtaining enough money to win Daisy back. Secretly, the way James earned his wealth was illegal. James sold illegal liquor. On the the other hand, Nick finds discovers that Daisy is miserable in her marriage with Tom. on page 39, Daisy says “The only CRAZY I was when i married him. I knew right away i made a mistake.” This shows the misery in her marriage with Tom. This was the opportunity James was waiting for. He was now wealthy enough to win her heart
