James K. Polk, a president of the United States, believed that the U.S. had a “manifest destiny’ to spread across the continent towards the west. The president tried to buy places like California, Nevada, and Utah from Mexico. Mexico denied the offer from the United States which such decisions made the president mad. On April 25, 1846, Mexican cavalry attacked a group of U.S. soldiers, murdering about a dozen soldiers. Congress then declared war to Mexico on May 13 and Mexico never declared war to the United States. The U.S. started to conquer Mexican cities and winning a lot of battles. Eventually, Mexico City was defeated on September of 1847 and on February 2, 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed. This treaty ended the war and
