James Madison Jr was the fourth president of the United States. He was born on March 16, 1751 in Port Conway, Virginia. Madison 's father, James Madison Sr, was a very successful planter with more than 3,000 acres and had dozen of slaves. His Mother, Eleanor Conway, did not do a whole lot she stayed at home and took care of her twelve children. James Madison was the oldest of the twelve. During Madison’s childhood the French and Indian War was going on so he never strayed too far from home because he was scared that the Indians would attack. Also when James Madison was younger he suffered from psychosomatic which is stressed induced seizures or epileptic episodes. She previously was a widow from John Todd and had two sons with him, John Payne Todd and William Isaac Todd, sadly William Todd died at three months old and shortly after so did the husband. James and Dolley got married on September 15, 1794. Dolley Madison was actually a very popular first woman because unlike James, Dolley was very social towards everyone. But one thing Dolley Madison was remembered and honored for was saving the huge portrait of George Washington. This happened because while James was out in the field Dolley was left back at the White House and british troops were coming to the house to burn it down. Madison served two presidential terms which lasted from 1809 to 1817. James actually had two vice presidents while in office. His first one was George Clinton which lasted from 1809 to 1812 and his second vice president was Elbridge Gerry which lasted from 1813 to 1814. The reason why both of James’s vice presidents had short terms was because unfortunately they both died in office. James Madison 's presidency is well known but not really for the good things it 's more like the events that happened during it.
