The Beauty Side Effects on Society Many people can be hypocrites and say that there is nothing wrong with society, but that would be such an untruthful statement to make. In fact, one of the most outrageous ideas that people tend to live by is what the human being like to call beauty. Beauty can be defined in so many different ways and be used as a lethal weapon as well. Although people choose to be hypocrites and stand behind their pitiful and white lies, it’s important to look at the truth. The number one reason why the world is doomed and awkward is because society depends on makeups, beards, and superficial statements. Not just that, humans depend on materialistic objects to hide behind because they feel these things make them beautiful and powerful. In Jane Martin’s short play “Beauty,” Bethany explains that “Money can only buy you things. Beauty can make you the center of the universe” (Martin 753). This statement can be quite depressing and hurtful to many people, but unfortunately it is worded just perfectly to illustrate how people/individuals in society perceive each other. According to a scientific research that was done by a microbiologist named John Golobic from Quest Diagnostics, a beard on a man tends to have fecal microbes and can be as dirty as a toilet. He goes on to say that there can be a “degree of uncleanliness that would be somewhat disturbing" even if the beard matter does not make people sick.
