Society and the government have not been very helpful when it comes to women and their rights. A lot less when it comes to reproductive rights. Consequently, abortion is one of the most controversial topics in the United States. It goes a long way back and since then this topic have had split opinions among our society.
It all started in 1970, when a woman named Norma McCorvey sought to terminate her pregnancy and was blocked by state law. Two Texas lawyers Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington took the case to court. To protect the privacy of McCorvey she was recorded in court documents under the pseudonym Jane Roe. It took two years for the case to be heard in the Supreme Court. What you found most common between them is their opinion based on religion and not in actual facts. Although the (National Abortion Federation)bible does not specifically mention abortion, its speaks of the unborn Jesus as a person, and it is wrong to kill a person. Therefore, many people believe abortion is wrong because it is murder of the unborn who is thought to be a person because that what it says in the Bible. Their arguments are very simple. Some sate that pregnancy was a careless act of the mother and now she should take responsibility of the child no matter in the situation she is at the moment. Others say that if abortion is unconditionally accepted it will become a form of birth control. Furthermore, other people follow Natural Law, saying that sex is meant to be for procreation, and abortion is unnatural therefore it goes against God’s …show more content…

A fetus is not a human being since it needs the uterus to live. It should not be called murder to have an abortion since the fetus is not self-sustaining and needs the mother’s body and physical resources to survive. Furthermore, “surgical abortion is one of the safest types of medical procedures. Complications from having a first-trimester aspiration abortion are considerably less frequent and less serious than those associated with giving birth” (National Abortion Federation). When abortion was illegal in the United States, women did not stop having them instead they did them themselves with primitive objects and in unsanitary conditions, this lead to many deaths because most of them did not survive. Some people believe that the best choice is to put the child up for adoption, but truth is most foster homes and orphanages are beyond capacity and it would be a heavier weight on already scarce resources. In the case of rape and incest, the baby becomes a reminder of the horrendous crime. It is proved that child resulting from these crimes face higher risk of being neglected or abused by their mothers. Lastly, every child should come into this world wanted, and should have parents psychologically and financially prepared to give the unborn the best life
