Comparing and contrasting Internment camps and Concentration camps Many people wonder “What are the similarities and differences between the Internment camps and Concentration camps? How were people treated in both camps? What did the people there eat? What were the conditions like?” In this essay we will go over all of those questions and what the similarities and differences between the Internment camps and Concentration camps are. Section one: The similarities. There are many differences and similarities between the Internment camps and Concentration camps. Let's go over the similarities first. Internment camps were similar to concentration camps because they were used to gather a lot of a specific group of people, whether that be Jewish people or Japanese people. The conditions of both camps were relatively poor, the Japanese camps were so hastily built that the walls were thin and had multiple holes and cracks in them. The main difference between the two camps was the way people were treated. In the Japanese Internment camps, people were able to do volunteer work, they were able to make changes to their own barracks, they had more room to move around, they had medicine, and overall they had more freedom. In the Jewish concentration camps, however, it is completely different. In the Concentration camps, Jewish people had to do forced manual labor, they had to sleep in chambers that were small and crowded, they had to go on long marches, they had to be put in jumpsuits, they had their names taken away and replaced with numbers, and they were beaten, even sometimes to
