Treyvon Martin was a teenager who was unarmed, shot, and killed in Sanford, Florida. The incident happened on February 26, 2012. The officer who shot Martin followed Martin around outside when he then confronted Martin. They seemed to have some kind of argument, and then officer Zimmerman shot Martin in the chest. Dred Scott was owned by Peter Blow and his family who later moved to Alabama then to Missouri. In the year 1832 Peter passed away Scott was then bought by an army surgeon Dr. John Emerson. In 1836 Scott fell in love with Harriet Robinson, Dr. Emerson bought her and they soon were wed. I created the Job Posting as a way to represent the needs for different trades when settling Virginia. Most likely people would have heard about the opportunity to move by word of mouth, but I felt that a Job Posting would affectively show the need for different types of trades in America. I used images of John White’s water color paintings of Virginia and the Native American Tribe Secotan (Nadie’s homeland) to help make a connection to the story. In A World Away people of different occupations were needed to travel to the New World to help establish a colony. The child I am observing is a first grade boy at Prescott Elementary. I am watching over him at the Prescott after school program.
