The last we see of Pycelle in canon is face planted on his desk with his head bashed in by Varys or one of his “little birds.” We saw a lot of him in all five books, mostly doing mischief apparently all on behalf of the Lannisters. Is he really the loathsome treacherous creature we find in almost all the five books, or is there something more? We know Pycelle was first appointed Grand Maester at a fairly young age a few months before the death of Aegon V at a time when three older Grand Maesters all had died shortly after appointment and within little more than a year of one another. He is not mentioned in connection with the tragedy at Summerhall and so appears not to have been involved with that fiasco and to have kept clean hands with respect to it.
