Othello is known as a great Shakespearian tragedy. A man of color in love, trick by a foe dressed with kindness into corruption and his hands bloodied. A young Iago pulls everyone into a web deceit and destruction of their self-values and true identity. Dealing with race, prejudice, and manipulation, Othello paints a story in which we all can be captured by. In this minor dissertation, I shall manifest the thoughts of Othello through artistic expression that I carry within my brain. 2. Background In the Shakespearian time, many colored people given the label of Moor populated England as either slaves or men of the court. I want to put glasses on to the audience, or take off, so they may see what struggle comes from opposing emotions. The pulsating pain of jealousy. I want them to feel the fear in which he had hidden away in his heart during the killing, suspicion, and devotion (see at article one). I intend to put the portrayal of love, the convincing, and the killing in silence.What does that mean? The audience’s capability to dig deep into their mind would be reinforced by the struggle of Othello. Hidden in the human brain is the opposing feeling of good and evil. Do we want to serve or destroy? I believe only artistic movement expressed with the sweet unearthly melodies could make the audience’s skin crawl with the realization that they too have had the fight, just as Othello. It may be similar to other renditions and it will show a side in which other’s covered their eyes to, neglected to see, and blocked out. Othello is much more than it may seem. As for physical attributes, I search for a man built like a male ballet dancer. Dark skin as Othello and the ability to lift and leap like Mikhail Baryshnikov. I want this man to have struggled with jealousy in some way or another. He must be able to relate.
