When reading the text “First Hand Accounts of the Great Depression” by Erin Cobb, it expresses what this historical event was. It is mentioned that “The Great Depression was a time of economic turmoil in the United States'' (Cobb). Following that, it is recalled in the text that people began to spend less, resulting in stores not being able to sell their goods. This also led to factories slowing down the production of goods. According to the text, “these were all signs of a recession, or a decline in the economy” (Cobb).

Edward knew this would be mighty well for his business which just happens to be one of the only funeral homes in that area of Kanawha County.
In the book A.D New Orleans After The Deluge, By Josh Neufeld is about Hurricane Katrina and how it affected the people of New Orleans. This book was about real people that escaped and lived through the storm. Most people lost everything including their houses, all personal belongings, and jobs. As I was reading the book was shocked that in the beginning most of the characters were not worried about the storm they just wanted to wait it out. No one was expecting such a big storm and thought it would turn east like they normally did.
This showed that innocence would be lost all over their neighborhood later on. As the book progresses, Miss Maudie is staying with one of her neighbors, Miss Stephanie. Most of the ladies of the town, including Scout’s Aunt Alexandra attended a missionary circle hosted by the Finches. When these ladies come together they eat food and talk about taking Jesus to Africa. One of the ladies in attendance, Miss Merriweather had a lot to say Christian values and practicing them.

A fierce shriek of the storm had been answered by a splitting crash over their heads. " When this happens a tree falls on the two men and shortly after both of the men die. This creates major irony in the mood because through out the story the two men hated and wanted to kill each other but when the finally seem to make up they both die. So the mood of the interlopers shifts many times throughout this short story but generally it had a ominous and suspenseful mood aside from the shifts to enlightenment and
The shivering girls hugging themselves and clicking down the street” all make the image of typical college students out having a good time. Biss then introduces what happened during Hurricane
He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided… Rainsford awoke, frightened, but was soothed by the calming sounds of the waves crashing into either side of the yacht. Rainsford, confused, yelled out “What on earth?” He stood up, and got a little light headed since he had just woken up. The boat was rocking viciously to the left and to the right, which caused Rainsford to stumble, and almost crash down the steps going to the upper deck.
We wrang out our clothes and hung everything up as best we could. We were not surprised when the lights flickered out as a result of the storm. As we calmed down, everyone was sharing their similar stories, and from my perspective, I had the best one to tell. Since we could not shower due to the loss of power, we all sat near the window and watched the storm continue to thrash. Bolts of lightning and sheets of rain crossed the sky.
Although the storm is dangerous, nature does not mean to hurt Janie and Tea Cake, as it gives them multiple warnings. Several days before the storm, Janie “heard the snort of big animals. Once the muted voice of a panther. Going east and east” (155). Janie and Tea Cake, despite nature’s many attempts to warn and help them, decide to stay and wait it out, refusing to believe a storm will drive them out of their home.
An hour and a half had passed, and now the boat was swaying harder and harder from side to side. The black thunderous black clouds that had originally been seen on the horizon to the west had finally made its presence to the boat. The eyes on everyone started looking like they were in a drunk daze, because of the momentus rock. It only took a few minutes from the nice wave-pool type waves to transfer into what was now fifteen-foot waves and a downpour of large heavy stinging raindrops. Turmoil and regret as to why the captain had let us out entered my mind, even though I had
The Storm Lightning crashes overhead as I race back into the house, dripping wet. I was just returning back from an adventure in the woods. The storm was unexpected, even the forecasters had never expected it. Luckily, I managed to make it back inside safely.
