In the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, she uses the theme that characters and people are not always what we initially believed them to be. There are many characters that portray this theme, but the two characters who portray the theme the best are Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. Boo Radley and Tom Robinson are both judged a lot throughout the book, but many people don’t even know much about him. The first person who portrays the theme of characters and people are not always what we initially believe them to be is Boo Radley because the kids think Boo Radley is a bad and scary person but does good things for them. This quote shows that Jem is talking about Boo Radley and what he looks like when all he knows is rumors about Boo Radley since he has never seen him or even met him. People in Maycomb think of Boo Radley as a scary monster because of all the rumors that are spread about him. Scout also talks about Boo Radley in Chapter One. Describing him, “Inside the house lived a malevolent phantom” She also says “People said he went out at night when the moon was down, and peeped in windows.” Another thing Scout says about Boo is “When people’s azaleas froze in the cold, it was because he had breathed on them. All the stealthy small crimes committed in Maycomb were his work.”Although Scout has never seen Boo or even knows if any of that information is correct, she says all the rumors that are spread about Boo Radley although she doesn’t know him. But at the end of the book in chapter 31, Scout then realized she was all wrong about Boo Radley, “Atticus was right. One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in
