The film Jerry Maguire is about a sports agent who must overcome his fear of being alone while trying to recover from losing more than half of his clients since he was fired from Sports Management International (SMI). The theme of Jerry Maguire is to keep on moving on with your life even if you face hardships or unexpected events like being fired from a job you were great at. In the 1966 film Jerry Maguire screenwriter and director Cameron Crowe uses motif of yin and to emphasize the theme of the good and decisions that everyone will make many times throughout his or her life.

Jerry’s only client is Rod Tidwell. Rod Tidwell is a cocky wide receiver who wants a great deal with the Arizona Cardinals in order to provide financial stability for his family. Rod often tells Jerry to “show me the money.” Throughout the movie, Rod never gives up on Jerry because he has faith in him. Since Jerry is feeling sorry for himself, he’s insecure, makes impulsive decisions. For example Jerry kisses Dorothy when he’s drunk, he makes their work environment awkward and uncomfortable for a little while. Dorothy and Jerry are both terrible at communication when they’re dealing with love. Dorothy doesn't like to talk about her past relationships and she over analyzes every little detail because she also has to think about the wellbeing of her son before she jumps into a relationship. Jerry on the other hand, has never been alone. He doesn’t know how to be alone. Jerry fails to recognize his own needs, he becomes dependent on his significant other because of their lack of success in his career or the outcome isn’t what he pictured it to be. As soon as Jerry and Dorothy get married, the faces many struggles. Dorothy believes that she made an impulsive mistake that could eventually hurt not only herself but her son. Jerry focuses on his work but at the end of the day, he finally realizes that he wants be with Dorothy and her son
