The case for Unit 2 presented multiple team dynamics that ultimately lead to an undesirable outcome following the heart and lung transplant surgery of 17-year old Jesica Santillon. In this case, it was made aware that Jesica had been smuggled illegally into the United States by her family in search of a treatment for her heart and lung disorder. Through the efforts of a charity started by a family friend, Jesica was able to receive a transplant of both her heart and lungs at Duke University. Although Jesica’s surgeon, Dr. James Jaggers was regarded by many as competent, multiple factors related to social, technical and organizational aspects of the surgery ultimately lead to Jesica’s death (Burns, Bradley & Weiner, 2011).
