Introduction In this essay, I will be evaluating the history, appearance, thought process, cognition, and psychosocial assessment of Jessica Day from the tv series: New girl. The purpose of a mental assessment is to “… gather information about the patient via tests and interviews, in order to evaluate cognitive functioning and ability in specific areas and to predict future behavior” (Qadeer, 2023). Throughout the duration of the interaction, Jess kept raising her voice as her friends went around the table telling her reasons why she should get a new job. Rather than answering their questions, she deflects their attempts through her pressured speech and redirection of questions. Along with this, her speech becomes more tangential as she lacks focus and fails to return to the initial topic of conversation (Gilletee, 2022). The initial conversation was surrounded by the goal of her obtaining a new job; however, the interaction ends with Jess accusing Nick of being angry 365 days of the year. Jess does not demonstrate any memory problems, and it is unsure if she is having difficulty concentrating on the conversation, or if she is choosing not to discuss the topic of her getting a new job. In continuation, we are unable to assess any intellectual problems from this clip, but we can evaluate her lack of good judgement and insight into this topic. She has not paid her rent or utilities and has not left her room for days demonstrating lack of good judgement as she is not being very responsible. It is possible that her mental state is not allowing her to start applying for jobs, but now this issue is interfering with her daily living as she is not able to meet her basic needs. Along with poor judgment, she is also demonstrating poor insight as she does not vocalize that she has a problem and alludes that her friends are being mean to her by comforting her, and that this is unfair because Nick is angry all of the time. Her statements indicate poor insight as she is unable to see the problem and how it interferes with her daily living. Her friends confronting her may seem like an attack, but they seem to have her best interest as they know her best and what she is normally
