The Limits of Reason Over time people have evolved to use reason and logical explanations to solve problems rather than spiritual beliefs. Before humans began relying on rational thought, they based their actions off of the belief of gods and fate. An example of someone relying solely on reason in the age of gods and goddesses is The Fox in Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold. This character, The Fox, in Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold by C. S. Lewis relies on reason to solve complicated situations which may limit him mentally from other possible solutions and may also be evident in today’s culture.

Their religion is their entire life and they can’t imagine their lives without it. Imagine a scenario that’s so terrible that God won’t take you out of it. These people will wonder where God is and pray for Him to come.

What is religion? Why is mankind addicted to this conception unlike other species? Why does humanity submit to one, or multiple super powerful entities? Is there a neurological component that drives humans or is part of the societal construction? Such overwhelming questions have subjective answers due to varying descriptions of entities and research.
The main reason religions exist are to judge evil and decide what punishment shall be ruled out to evil-doers. Of course with any man made system there is bound to be flaws. Group polarization occurs when individuals assemble together and their decisions and actions become increasingly extreme.
As the groups of people began to grow, the need to know more occurred, thus spurring the creation of religion. Religion, in the beginning, maintained a polytheistic outlook on life. Polytheism religions had multiple Gods and had spiritual aspects intertwined with the beliefs of the people. Religion gave people answers for their questions and emphasized the creation of the earth and humans. Once civilization became more technologically advanced, religion morphed from its polytheistic roots to a monotheistic style.
He does this as a representation of people. Fear of embarrassment or rejection keeps us as people from expressing our feelings and views of the world and God, the “divine idea” of which we as people of the world represent brings us to shame.
Religion in Western civilization has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in shaping and developing Western society. Regardless of the form of religion, such as polytheism or monotheism, people in ancient societies believed in a God or Gods. This belief in a higher power was an important part of human progression and expansion. Religion was the backbone of Western civilization and has always been a very important foundation of culture, schooling, philosophy, art, and social interaction. Before Judaism and Christianity, philosophers such as Aristotle ponder the thought of a higher power and in his book Metaphysics wrote about eternal motion was an unmoved mover.
Religion is part of the human history and it will always be a part of it. Even though many know that religion is part of history a lot of person avoid religion like if it was a sickness and they want nothing to do with it. The fear of religion or a deity is what has made religion a center of investigation. One of the most controversial investigations are the ones that said that religion is not something that we as humans choose to believe in, but rather that we are already born with a predisposition to believe in a deity, in other words that humans are neurologically wired for religion. This claim has been hardly controversial because many said that religion, like Christianity, did not exist before Christ or that if humans we are predispose
Religion was created as the understanding of the totem changed. Durkheim states, “religious force is none other than the collective and anonymous force of the clan, the totemic emblem is so to speak the visible body of the god”. The overwhelming spiritual feeling surrounding the totem that is now understood as some form of religion. It becomes more complex over time and creates a hierarchy and order which results in knowledge, a way to organize and understand the world much like the sciences. Both science and religion are a way of knowing, but religion has a stronger emotional pull due to being created through the collective effervescent.
Most of our religious views come from our parents until we are least of the age to think for ourselves which does not happen for a long time. Even then, it is difficult as a young adult to believe in different idea than our parents without some form of negative retaliation or conflict. After having a certain idea or belief drilled into our heads for more than a decade it makes sense why so many people stick with what they have been told and refuse to make a change in how they feel, or how they were forced to feel for so long. This also makes it easy to understand why people continue to pass down these beliefs. People will continue to do something until they have a reason not to which is why religion continues to be passed down.
