Joshua Johnson Joshua Johnson was an African-American painter who lived in the Baltimore area. Johnson, often viewed as the first African-American to make a living out of painting in the United States, is well-known for his professional paintings. He was a self-taught painter who worked during the 19th centuries. I thought that focusing on Joshua Johnson, is more interesting because often when the matter of artists in American art history comes up, the focus tends to be on White Americans than on the American artists of color. Joshua Johnson’s paintings were not popular until the year 1939, when they were discovered by art historians, who believed that thirteen portraits were painted by Joshua Johnson.
Both Jack Johnson and Babe Didrikson were considered to be some of the first “outsiders” to achieve success with their respective sports of boxing and golf. Jack Johnson was one of the first African-American boxers back in the 1910s, a time when boxing was a largely, if not mostly, white sport. On the other hand, Babe Didrikson was one of the first female golfers, and overall athletes, back in the 1930s, mostly playing sports that were, and kind of is still to this day, male dominated. Both athletes challenged preconceived notions of what it is like to play their respective sports, setting the stage for future athletes, specifically African-Americans and females. One story from the reading that is particularly interesting about Jack Johnson was one about his childhood, where Johnson was a part of an interracial gang in Galveston, Texas and made many white friends (Runstedtler 13).
His 24-month long mission gave him the opportunity to use his journalism and educational experiences to cover the important roles that African American soldiers were playing in the Vietnam War. The military’s goal in this assignment was to show the American people and potential African American soldiers that African American soldiers were now treated equally. There was a stigma regarding the maltreatment of African Americans in the military, and with the passing of the Civil Rights Bill of 1964, the image of the African American soldier began to quickly change. The new breed of African American soldiers no longer tolerated bigotry and hatred. African American soldiers began uniting to combat the injustices in America as well as within the military overseas.
The Civil War has ended and now we need to reunite the states. The Johnson plan was the best plan because of various reasons. One of the reasons is because they had to ratify the 13 amendments. The thirteenth amendment was to slavery. Abolishing slavery is good because that means everyone has freedom, and freedom is what all African-Americans want.

Gregory lee Johnson, was convicted of burning the American flag which violates the Texas Penal Code. Burning the American flag is unconstitutional to some and to others it is protected by the first amendment. This is a huge controversial argument between many american citizens. Some say that it doesn't have a big impact on the US, but really it has a bigger impact than I ever imagined. The Texas vs Johnson case had a big impact on the United States because it shows us how the 1st amendment guarantees us many different rites that we didn’t know about.

They are all wearing ragged clothing, sad expressions and carrying a lot of cotton. After the war, most of the slaves were very broke. They’ve had jobs their whole lives without getting paid and now they quit. Now free with no money, the African Americans had no clue what to do since all they know is farming, but didn’t have any money to buy any land. Most became tenant farmers, or people who rented land from others to farm, but since they have a shortage of money they all died in
Andrew Johnson is came from a poor family and was not educated until later years. He was born on December 29, 1808 and died July 31, 1875/ He was the seventh president. Andrew Johnson finished out Araham Lincoln's term when he was assasinated. He was a very prejudice person who believed the United States was for white men and should only be governed by white men. Many people think he was the worst president the United States has ever had until Barack Obama come along.
Responsibility often comes with the connotations of burden and sacrifice and most of the time, this is true. In The Wars, by Timothy Findley, the concept of responsibility is demonstrated in the character of Mrs. Ross whose duties as a wife and a mother may be viewed as cold, cruel, and purposefully isolating; the complete opposite of the archetype of a compassionate mother figure. However, like each unique individual in society, the way one responds and takes responsibility varies infinitely; Mrs. Ross attempts to dissociate from society when she feels she has not fulfilled her duties and responsibilities. However, her empathetic nature prevents her from completely isolating herself from all sentiment. Rather, she subconsciously internalizes the welfare and hardships faced by others while sacrificing her own well-being.

He became President so fast because just about six weeks after being appointed President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Wendell Phillips, a prominent white American abolitionist, gave an empowering and reverent speech regarding his admiration for former slave and Haitian general, Toussaint-Louverture. Phillips uses the power of figurative language and rhetorical devices to reveal an unmistakable abolitionist passion for African American rights, and attempts to ignite this enthusiasm into the hearts and minds of the audience through his zealous attitude. Phillips employs hyperbole, understatement, and metaphor to persuade the audience that the support of African American soldiers will be an influencing aspect in an impending American victory. The speech is rife with parallel structure and reference to historical allusions. This technique allows him to praise Toussaint-Louverture while also influencing and inspiring onlookers.
