The NBA did not desegregate until the late 1950’s roughly 5 years after baseball had fully Integrated. Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton and Earl Lloyd were the first African Americans to be over Drafted in the second round by the Boston Celtics. Beforehand there were African American Teams, in the 1904 they were called black fives. They were branches outside of the YMCA, During the black fives era the teams emerged out of the cities: New York, Washington, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Cleveland. The teams were affiliated with churches, social clubs and newspapers.
This meant that bathrooms schools restaurants and more were separated blacks and whites. Schools head laws stating that thing separate but equal is okay. But many weren’t this way African American schools often got the leftovers of the white schools. James F Byrnes put in place a law to protect this from happening he put the same books that were in white schools in black schools.
Between 1887 and the mid 1960’s , the Jim Crow Laws were not only a series of anti- Black laws, it started to mould American society and became a way of life. African Americans were reduced to second class citizens and the danger of segregation was heavily emphasised. Segregation was seen throughout all aspects of life, and was particularly evident in baseball. In Eighteen-eighty-three, Moses Fleetwood Walker became the first professional black baseball player who played for a white major league team and joined the American Association.

At that time, it was legal to separate any organization or public amenity into ‘whites only' and 'blacks only.' For a long time, public transportation, cafeterias, rest areas, entertainment facility, movie houses, and even the United States Army could be legally separated. There were also rules and laws made to forbid the African Americans from casting votes. Often, the equality never existed even though the law stated it.
Most slaves lived on enormous plantations that stretched all the way across the South. Field slaves were slaves that la-bored in a little group controlled by what was called a slave driver, who was usually another slave worker. Women usually worked as cooks, maids, and nurses for both the master’s and mistress’s children. Slaves were very well known for being skilled workers, working as carpenters, blacksmiths, and coopers. The younger female slaves generally worked as babysitters for the smaller infants or just helped with small chores around the house.
The Jim Crow Law was put into effect in the late nineteenth century, it's purpose was to create a system of racial etiquette that supports previous patterns of black subordination(pg.434). The Jim Crow Law was meant to oppress African Americans, by making blacks give way to whites on the sidewalk, making black men remove their hats, bow their heads and also look away black men had to look away when spoken to by white men. Another reason for Jim Crow Law, was establish to keep Caucasians and African Americans in separate, supposedly equal rail cars, that the rail car company disagreed with. To see how segregation was in the 1800s, the article "From Briggs v. Elliott to Brown v Bored of Education" by an unknown author explains how whites had more than blacks back then, trying to make it equal so that the blacks had as much as the whites. According to the article it states,"This also meant that if a state or a local school board built a school for white children, the state or school board was bound by the U.S. Constitution to build a school for black children. This racist policy is called "separate but equal. ' " Here the author is saying that if a school was built for the whites then it was an order for a school to be built for the blacks, even if they were separate and not in the same schools, they still had to be equal one way, because eduaction is important to childrens. Futhermore, the article states, "African American parents in South Carolina wanted their children to have the same services and schools with the same quality as the white children...
THE YEAR IS 2009. Citizens of the United States enjoy freedom, privileges, and for many, an opportunity to participate in the “American dream.” BUT, approximately 40 years ago this was not true for African Americans living in the South. I reside in Columbia, South Carolina, and today as I sit and watch people – Black people, White people, - people of all races -walk with their lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers, sit, and enjoy a family summer concert at Finlay Park, I can’t help but wonder, how many people know of the struggle?
In the Late 1800s, there was an era called the Jim Crow Era. Jim Crow was a character that was created in 1863 by white men to amuse white people. This character began to grow to symbolize one of the most tragic events in American history, known as, racism. African-Americans would become slaves simply because they were African-American in 1865. Even though, we do not have slaves in today’s society, we do still see some rippling affects from the Jim Crow Era.
As current time and social status are being challenged and pushed, the Jim Crow Laws were implemented. These state and local laws were just legislated this year, 1877. New implemented laws mandate segregation in all public facilities, with a “separate but equal” status for African Americans. This may lead to treatment and accommodations that are inferior to those provided to white Americans, systematizing a number of economic, educational, and social disadvantages.
Jim Crow laws were the philosophy of “separate but equal” (doc#1). The argument against Jim Crow laws was that “separate educational facilities are inherently unequal”(doc #1). The Case Brown V Board of Education (1954) declared that education had to be equal. This led to forced bussing where black students were bussed to white schools. This resulted in mixed success because kids were displaced from their home communities.

The Jim Crow laws are laws that enforced racial segregation in the Southern United States. It used the term separate but equal, even though conditions for African Americans were always worst than their white counterparts. They could not eat at the same restaurant as white people, they could not used the same restrooms, and they couldn't even use the same drinking fountain.

During 1865, when Reconstruction started, Black Louisianan's gain their freedom as slavery ended and recied privileges like voting rights. When Reconstruction ended, Black Louisianan's lives struggled more because of Jim Crow Laws ing introduced. Black Louisianan's esisted Jim Crow segregation in multiple ways. Black Louisianians resisted Jim Crow segregation in many ways, including sueing for more freedom, planning protest and a boycott, ignored cartain laws, and making people change laws.
In an attempt to put slavery in our past, America faced new obligations to help incorporate African Americans into society. Discrimination peaked during this time as Caucasians were forced to free previous slaves. Jim Crow laws were created to segregate African Americans as an inferior race (Schaefer, p. 171, 2015). Jim Crow the term originated in a dance number starring a white person with a blackened face and depicted African Americans as uneducated and poor (“Racial Segregation in the American South: Jim Crow Laws,” 2007). Jim Crow laws gave Caucasians the ultimate authority to undermine African American’s (Schaefer, 2015).
