You Got Nothing Coming Jimmy Lerner, was enjoying life until the stress of corporative downsizing and rampant consumerism led to drug abuse, drinking, divorce, bad companions, and finally murder. Lerner killed a man in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was convicted of murder. However, Lerner’s attorney assisted on dropping the charges to voluntary manslaughter. In the books final chapter, is where he flashes back to the crime that sent him to prison. For example, the author started his book by describing his humiliation of being naked in suicide watch cell no.3. Jimmy Lerner, goes into deep details on the conduct of the deputies that he encoder. It was Lerner’s first time being in jail and was unaware on how the correctional system worked. Throughout the book Lerner was consider as a fish but changed that while he speeded more time with Kansas. Kansas helped Lerner out while he was in prison, he guided and protected Lerner. Throughout the time that they spend together, Kansas was always insisting him to become tougher. Lerner desires to be like Kansas, to have the power, authority, and respect that he had. Over the years that Lerner passed in jail he learned more and more about how the system works. Being around people that do or sell drugs influenced Lerner to get involved by selling drugs. The reason that, he did not want to demonstrate fear while he was in prison, caused him to do things that he would not normally do. The authors did not realize the transformation that he went through while behind bars, for the reason that he was not trying to change but only adapt to his new environment. Being distracted while facing this situation caused him not to realize the transformation that he overcame.
