On June 9th 2008 a phone call was made to the Mesa police department at 7 pm to report the murder of Travis Victor Alexander. After a brief investigation and at the insistence of many friends, police arrested and charged Jodi Ann Arias with First Degree Murder. There are many instances where the death penalty are questionable, but Jodi Arias is not someone who deserves to be spared. After the prosecutor proved premeditation, and that the murder was especially heinous and caused excessive suffering, it is clear that she deserves the death penalty. Premeditation was proven as follows. On May 28th 2008, the home Jodi Arias lived in with her grandparents was broken into. A 25 caliber gun was stolen it had no serial and no registration. The officer who took the call stated that it looked staged. On the 28th of May Jodi called and asked her ex boyfriend Darryl Brewer to borrow two 5 gallon gas cans. She then tells her family she is taking a road trip to see Ryan Burns in Utah. Ryan Burns was a potential beau and turned out to be her alibi. On 3 June Jodi drove her own car 90 miles south of Yreka CA to Redding CA and rented a white Ford Focus as a blonde. A Ford Focus holds 13.5 gallons of gas. She has 3 five gallon gas cans, another was bought at Walmart, so she had 15 gallons of excess fuel. That is roughly 440 miles without having to stop for gas. Redding is not on route to Salt Lake City, UT. On her trip to visit Darryl Brewer in Monterrey CA she stopped and begged money from a Paul Stern so she could get to Travis because he was seeing other women. Stern stated she was desperate and that he did not understand her need to see a man who was not interested in her. She and Travis had not been in a relationship for over 16 months at this point. On her journey to distance herself from the crimes scene and the murder of a man she still claims to love, she cleaned the crime scene, dragged Travis's body back to the shower and washed his body to get rid of her DNA. She attempted to destroy the camera, but left the memory card intact so her presence was belied by her own stupidity. On the wall where he staggered to escape her attack, a hand print mixed with her DNA and Travis's DNA was found. She has admitted that she “woke up” from a fog in the desert covered with blood and that she got rid of the murder weapons. While she was in Salt Lake City visiting Ryan Burns, she was pulled over because the rear license plate on the Focus was flipped upside down, and the front plate was removed.
