In the 20th century, lots of different people of different cultures had come to Canada hoping that they would get better lifestyle, get their rights and do whatever they want to. But what happened is that the people living over there were forced to vacate the land for the other people who came there for earning some capital. This created problems between the first nation people and the Canadian government. Amongst the aboriginal people, there was a person called Joe capilano who was the leader of the Squamish people raised his voice against this issue. “The photo of Joe capilano holding a totem pole clearly shows that he was proud of his culture, he was persistent to fight for aboriginal rights and finally he was a fearless leader”. And also I got to learn how they showed the importance of their culture. Another fact which I learnt was that how their leader Joe capilano in the picture is holding a totem pole and his unique dressing. He is trying to show that how totem poles are important in their culture, and they are not so scary. And also how the leaders in their community dress up, how the crown which is made of feathers, is important to him and for the first nation culture. Another fact is that it also showed how back then in the days the Canadian government was with the major minority cultures and because of factors like more economy, better improvement of life allowed people from other countries to enter and majority of people living there were forced to vacate their land just because of earning and for the country’s development. They also fought for their rights and demanded that the government should think about the well-being of the people living there not the people who are coming there. I also got to learn that Joe capilano was a brave leader and also he along with other leaders went to England to address the issue with the king over there.
