Surprisingly, Canada was originally not called Canada it was called New France,Also Canada had a very unstable government but for 150 years Canada has been a stable country . Through the years of 1713-1850 Canada was in many wars such as the 7 year war and the spanish succession until they found peace. In 1713 the war of spanish succession ended with the treaty of utrecht making britton control of acadia It seems like the French have taken over most of the land in lower Canada in the middle but the British had taken big colonies to surrounding new France so the french found it difficult to strengthen its position in the middle of the British colonies . The map had to change on who owned which colonies because in the war of the spanish succession which was a war between the French and the british but the French won and they got the colonies Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique but then the French traded them acadia for one of the british colonies because one of the british colonies had sugar and sugar was very valuable back then but it was good for the british because they made Acadis for british treaty . The Europeans also fought the French from taking over new spain but the French lost. So new spain has a little spot on the map and it's owned by the Europeans. Lord Elgin and his son in law came to a crisis with the rebellion losses bill called the active union because this bill asked for a large amount of money toward´s the the people that were in lower Canada because there property was damaged because of the the rebellion. The tories didn't like that and voted against the bill from happening because they had feared that people who had risen up against the government so the bill was passed and sent to lord Elgin to signed into law.Lord Elgin didn't think that this bill was wise but the government favored it. Since the revolution happened lower Canada was destroyed but if Lord Elgin didn't sign it the tories would make more violence against lower Canada.Most people were happy in west Canada about the act of union because Canada west and east would share, however french canadians were angry because they thought they favoured the english even though Canada easy was a larger population.They made english the official language.This event matters because since the bill happened against Lord Elgin changed the border .That's how the border changed in 1849 to make it
