Born on November 11, 1744 in the early Massachusetts colony in Weymouth, Abigail Smith was the second of four children of William Smith, a Congregational minister, and his wife, Elizabeth Quincy. Growing up, Abigail Smith educated herself while spending time at her grandmother’s house in English, French, and history by reading an immense amount. In 1764, she married John Adams, a lawyer, and became Abigail Adams. At the time, Abigail was nineteen years old and John was twenty eight.
John’s mother later remarries and he was adopted by his paternal uncle and his wife. Years passed and in 1750 he was accepted in Harvard College where he later Graduated in 1754. Samuel Adams graduated from Harvard in 1743, even though he was a very educated young man he struggled getting a successful business started because he had problems with handling his finances, but most young people face the same struggles. With no where to turn he joined his family business, and began to produce malt for brewing beer. In his spare time Samuel became an active writer with the independent paper, he was writing articles on the politics that were in the public. He had impressed Reverent Thaddeus Mccarty who had directed the Central School of Worcester with his commencement speech that he ended up hiring Adams as a teacher. Then on May 1780 Adams, James Bowdoin, John Hancock, and other leaders had founded the American Academy of Arts and Sciences during the American Revolution. The whole purpose was to provide a forum for group of scholars, members of learned professions, and government and business leaders so they could work together even though the democratic interests of the republic.
