The type of love a baby first receives when he/she is born will forever have a huge impact on that child’s life. However not many parents understand this and especially maternal love. There are many problems that can happen because of poor early attachment that an infant does not receive. The attachment theory states that a child must have one caregiver that he/she has a very strong physical attachment in which there is strong and emotional attachment to that caregiver as well. The attachment theory is made up by two people, John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth. Both, Freud, and other psychoanalytic theorists influenced John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth. There are four styles of attachment that have been identified in adults: dismissive-avoidant, fearful-avoidant, secure, and anxious-preoccupied. These all respond to the infant’s classifications which are secure, insecure-ambivalent, insecure-avoidant, and disorganized/disoriented. The two main outcomes that happen because of the infant’s relationship between the mother are secure attachment and insecure attachment. Secure attachment happens right at the beginning of a child’s birth. A child who will have secure relationships and be able to trust people, will receive an enormous amount of love from their mother. Although, the father may also be present, the theory is stronger when the mother is the one who is providing these specific steps. This process starts because the mother is meeting every single need at the right time and the right need. The mother also makes sure she is satisfying her child’s needs as soon as her child begins to cry or act very emotional. The mother’s performance is always loving, devoted, and tender at all times.
