Freedom is a type of living that everyone in the world would appreciate having. Some people live in a communist country or a country where freedom do not exist and everything is controlled by the government. With many rules and regulations proposed by the government, people feel that it takes away from their freedoms. Nonetheless, America was established upon freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. People want to live this way along with protection from danger. Brown wanted to help those who were in slavery to fight for their freedom. Brown stated to Onion, “I ain’t master to you, Onion, you just as free as the birds run”. (29). Despite John Brown being a free man, he was assisting Onion and the others who were not free to become free. With John Brown being a white man, it showed that Onion and other slaves were not escaping for freedom in a sense; however, they all were in danger. Negroes that were living in the Kansas territory at the time were required to have a specific documentation that indicated them being in slavery or some sort. Otherwise, they were asked questions until the right answers were given. In a sense, Onion and the other slaves were fighting for freedom and still were not protected from possible dangers they can encounter. The United States government acquired a lot of power after 9/11 which makes the country not the land of the free, but the land of the confined.
