John Dewey was born on October 20, 1959 in Burlington, Vermont, was a twentieth century American “philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer” (John Dewey). Dewey preached the idea of pragmatism, which rejected customary perspectives of epistemology and mysticism. Pragmatism “considers practical consequences or real effects to be vital components of both meaning and truth” (Pragmatism). Pragmatism was established by a “Metaphysical Club”, from philosophy students from Harvard University (McDermid). Dewey’s belief systems grew from a logical path in regards to rationale of characteristic choice. “Dewey joined the newly founded University of Chicago, where his idealism gave way to an empirically-based theory of knowledge, and he started to align his ideals with an emerging pragmatic school of thought” (John Dewey). He accepted that learners must accommodate to each other and to their environment in Pragmatism and schools should introduce social experiences. “All learning is dependent on the context of place, time, and circumstance” (Four General or World Philosophies). Diverse; cultural and ethnic groups should learn to function and contribute to a democratic society. A definitive ambition for existing is the formation of an advanced social order. Character advancement relies upon making group decisions in light of outcomes. Teaching methods for pragmatists focus more on hands-on problem critical thinking, experimenting and projects, compelling students working in groups. Educational programs ought to unite the controls to focus on dealing with issues in an interdisciplinary way instead of going down sorted out groups of information to new students. Due to Dewey’s endeavors at rebuilding the classroom conditions and the style students are taught, students are instructed to satisfy their interests. As far as political perspectives, John Dewey would exploit the advance technology and social media world to advance his thought of advancing self-growth and interest. He would agree more to a democratic ideology. In today’s schools and education, Dewey’s system of beliefs can be shown through children in kindergarten having nap time and different learning styles such as hands-on activities. John Dewey prefers to take advantage of the social media world and advanced technology to revive his ideology of promoting self-growth and interest. He focuses more on finding the bigger idea and bigger conclusions. The ultimate conclusion helps gain knowledge in the educational world. It can be anything that promotes individualisms and allow everyone to pursue what they believe in and their interests in the world. However, Dewey believes that the reality must be experienced and students should interact with their habitat in order to acclimate and determine from it.
