“The Great Greene Heist” by Varian Johnson is a story about Jackson Greene and one of his greatest cons in Maplewood Middle School. Before, during his last cons, Principal Kelsey caught Greene in his office, and Jackson swore off scheming for good. But, Keith Sinclair announces he’s running for school president, against Jackson’s almost- girlfriend, Gabriela de la Cruz. Gaby had been furious with Jackson since his last con, and don’t want him involved in her election. But Jackson knows Keith has connections to Principal Kelsey that would win Keith the presidency whatever the vote count.
They were then led into a gully less than a kilometer away and only two boys escaped this. George Anderson (another convict who refused to join the massacre) was able to help these two boys escape. The men set up camp until later that night when the Wirrayaraay men arrived back at Myall Creek. They came back after hearing of the murders but were too late. When they reached the station, Mr. Anderson met them and told them to flee as he was unsure if the gang would come back.
After Davis ' capture 'The Darkie ' commenced searching coaches along the Lachlan Road, looking for the NSW troopers responsible for grabbing his mate Davis. Two other long time associates of Gardiner, Paddy Connolly and John M 'Guinness, who were also known to Ben Hall and who happened to be with Davis at the commencement of the gunfight with the three police officers at Brewer 's Shanty, had fled in an act of cowardice, as reported, "...on the first discharge two of the bushrangers, Paddy Connolly and M 'Guinness, put spurs to their horses and bolted, leaving their unfortunate mate to do battle against three...", Davis ' comment about the two was; "... my mates were curs,” said Davis, “Tea-and-sugar runaways...”, the end result of which was that M 'Guinness would pay a high price for deserting Davis and would be shot dead reportedly on Gardiner 's orders (another report has M 'Guinness shot dead for interfering with an Aboriginal woman) and Paddy Connolly would be stripped of
Pottinger at the time of the Hut burning and the destitution of the female occupants through what could be considered a premeditated move in collusion with John Wilson by using the pretext of illegal occupation of the women on the property of Wilson to draw Ben Hall out as by now Ben Hall was Pottinger 's enemy number one earlier in 1863 Pottinger forwarded a memo to the Inspector General McLerie of his view and future actions against Ben Hall who Pottinger was convinced was part of the Eugowra robbery but had slipped through the law net due to lack of evidence especially from Daniel Charters who had now long left the Lachlan, Pottinger wrote of his actions and prejudice: "... I accordingly deemed it my duty to at once summarily interfere and
The next day, they caught the Garretts’ attention by acting scared when the Calvary rode by, sparking their suspicion. The Garretts made Booth and Herold stay the night in their tobacco barn. They locked them in there in fear that they would steal their horses. Colonel Baker heard a tip about the location of the killers and sent his cousin, Luther Byron Baker to investigate with Colonel Everton Conger and Lieutenant Edward P. Doherty. The manhunters spoke to William Rollins, who told them where Willie Jett was, who told them where Booth and Herold
In the 1800’s an almost pure capitalist country was being controlled, bribed, and powered by Robber Barons which employed most of their population in an unmonitored economy. During the late 19th century these Robber Barons were in control of most citizen’s salary. In order to increase profits many factories paid their workers a decent wage so their employees could afford their products. That was the United States. Again a similar problem is arising.
Brady and his gang sailed to Frederick Henry Bay and proceeded to rob a settler of his weapons, thus beginning his bushranger career. As a bushranger Brady was insistent on promoting a new moral code. He became known as a man that treated women with kindness and did not allow his gang to hurt them. According to stories, when Brady's partner, McCabe threatened a settler's wife, Brady shot him in the hand and threw him out of the gang.
The above article also highlights the actions of a Mr. Wilding (although not named) who earlier in the month of September 1863, as Ben Hall was raiding at will through the area 's surrounding Bathurst and where by the end of the months of October and November, two of his number would be shot dead, not by the police, but by local squatters, those squatters being Mr. Keightley and Mr. Campbell. As remarked upon those two men were not the only squatters during 1863 to show pluck when it came to defending their property as well as killing the perpetrators as demonstrated by Mr Wilding who was ‘Bailed Up’ at his property near Burrowa named Wildash by two bushrangers who may or may not have been fringe dwellers of Ben Hall and Co named James Murphy
When it comes to the phrase “sharing is caring”, not too many business leaders followed it. Ironically, there were a few stingy industrialists who happened to have a generous heart. John D. Rockefeller, J.P.Morgan, and Andrew Carnegie are a few examples of individuals known for “money-hogging” in the 19th century. Although a couple of these robber barons started off as people who did not give back to their community, they managed to become captains of industry in the end. What are robber barons and captains of industry?
Stilwell had previous bad blood with the Earps after they falsely accused him of taking part in the Brisbee robbery in 1881. The group claimed Stilwell was planning to ambush them, ergo they ambushed him first. Frank Stilwell was found the next day, bullet-ridden. A warrant went out for the arrest of Wyatt and Warren Earp, Doc Holliday, and others for the murder of Frank Stilwell. The group resisted arrest, causing a great chase (Weiser, Kathy 1-2, "Wild West Outlaws and Lawmen"
In May 1787 the framers of the constitution met in Philadelphia to amend the Articles of Confederation. The fifty-five delegates collaborated and were able to design a new plan of government and create the constitution with the sole purpose to create a government that should and will protect the rights of the people. Written over 200 years ago it is no wonder the constitution is a product of its time, the amazing part is that it was written with such flexibility that it has been able to meet the challenge of the future too. As with most things written in a specific time period a document will be a product of its time and that is the case with the constitution.
There were two accounts on which he brutally murdered people who were pro-slavery; The Pottawatomie Creek Massacre in 1856 and the Harpers Ferry raid in 1859. The Pottawatomie Creek Massacre was his first act of radicalism in which he brutally hacked apart five unarmed men. The Harpers Ferry raid was what pushed John into the public eye as both a hero and a villain. From the view of him being a villain, it showed the brutality of the methods he used to get his message across. On October 16th, 1859, Brown and 21 of his male followers seized an arsenal and armoury in Harpers Ferry.
Markus Zusak has assembled ‘The Book Thief’ using a variety of narrative conventions. These include a unique narrative viewpoint, plot structure and use of imagery, all of which provide meaning to the reader. (33 words) A narrative’s point of view refers to who is telling the story. In this case Zusak’s narrator identifies himself as Death.
Did you know that Pavel Friedman, the author of the book The Butterfly wrote “A total of around 15,000 children under the age of fifteen passed through [the concentration camp] Terezin. Of these, around 100 came back”. This is a completely, absolutely horrid statistic, and yet it is true. Speculate about being a child back in Nazi Germany. Not all of these kids were Jews.
Forty million people a day view Instagram stories, 79% of teenagers use Snapchat once a day, and 51% use it at least eleven times a day. In fact, teenagers use on average five screens a day (Patel, “10 Tips”). The use of social media makes teenagers happier and cures their boredom after school. However, problems arise when young people find all their satisfaction on social media. All this time spent on social media and whether you get enough “likes” could result in a bad outcome and cause poor health.
