The title of the book I am writing about is called Chasing Lincoln’s Killer by James L. Swanson. There are 194 pages in this book. It is a nonfiction book about the main conspirators of the killer of the 16th U.S President, Abraham Lincoln. Some of the main characters are John Wilkes Booth, David Herold, and Lewis Powell, who contributed greatly to the death of Lincoln. The setting of the book changes as you read on. It starts at Ford’s Theatre, where Lincoln was shot and Booth jumps down from a high fall, breaking his leg, and fleeing the scene, then the book switches back and forth perspectives between Powell, Booth, and the people around Lincoln during his time of death.

Jones told the men to wait in the thicket until the Union soldiers gave up searching the area and left. Booth and Herold waited in the thicket for four days as Cox brought them food and news. Booth was disappointed and angry at the reaction to his deed. Virginia, unlike Maryland, was Confederate territory, so the farther South they went, the safer they would be. Jones supplied Booth and Herold with a boat and supplies and told them which way to row it. Unfortunately, Booth and Herold were rowing the wrong way, but Herold recognized the landing spot and the duo went to stay with some friends. The killers wasted a whole day before finally making the trip across the river into Virginia on the night of April …show more content…

The next day, they caught the Garretts’ attention by acting scared when the Calvary rode by, sparking their suspicion. The Garretts made Booth and Herold stay the night in their tobacco barn. They locked them in there in fear that they would steal their horses. Colonel Baker heard a tip about the location of the killers and sent his cousin, Luther Byron Baker to investigate with Colonel Everton Conger and Lieutenant Edward P. Doherty. The manhunters spoke to William Rollins, who told them where Willie Jett was, who told them where Booth and Herold
