John Gotti Biography John Gotti was born on October 27, 1940, in the South Bronx of New York. Gotti was raised by his two parents, John Joseph Gotti, Sr. and Philomena Gotti, along with his other 12 siblings. At the time, Gotti’s mother and father were unable to secure enough funds to support the whole family, which led to Gotti working in a club at the age of 12. Fortunately for Gotti, the club he worked in was owned by Carmine Fatico, who helped Gotti secure “financial funds” through the Gambino family. The Gambino family in particular was one of the 5 biggest crime syndicates at the time and would give Gotti the money to help support his family by making him join their ranks. At the age of 18, Gotti had already committed several crimes, such as street fighting, carjacking, as well as robberies. The most notable acts Gotti had committed were cargo theft in 1968, murdering a rival gang member in 1973, as well as killing his former boss, Paul Castellano. Such acts had both positive and negatives effects in Gotti’s life. These acts had built the way to Gotti becoming leader of the Gambino family, while they had also built the road to prison for life in 1992.
