John Locke and Thomas Hobbes were philosophers that grew up in different backgrounds, but both are from England. Their beliefs seem to correspond directly to the relationships with their father growing up. Locke’s and Hobbes’ couldn’t have had much more different beliefs. John Locke’s father was always involved in his life, he was also a military captain and lawyer. Both Locke’s mother and father were puritans, so his upcoming Puritanism was forethought. Due to his fathers ties in the government and for being so loyal, John was given an education only known to a handful of men at the time, studying at Oxford university. Hobbes, however, was left in the care of his uncle when his father abandoned him and his siblings, leaving virtually nothing
