John Steinbeck is a amazing author with an equally incredible writing style. One of the stylistic elements Steinbeck often used in his writing was symbolism. Symbolism is the use of objects to represent a certain idea. In John Steinbeck's "The Pearl" Kino is a poor man, but he finds the pearl of the world and his life begins to change in a very interesting way. Throughout the novel Kino hears music in his head that always represents a certain idea. " But Kino's hand had closed tightly on the pearl again, and he was glancing about suspiciously, for the evil song was in his ears, shrilling against the music of the pearl." (p. 28). When Kino hears the song of evil it represents distrust and suspicion. He thinks someone is going to steal his glorious
