Most of us have heard of the California Gold Rush while growing up in America. Many people do not know the real history behind it. After researching several topics for class, I have chosen to do a deeper dive into one particular Gold Rush character. John Sutter was an important and influential character in the California Gold Rush of 1848. He was important to the California Gold Rush of 1848 for many reasons, three of which are: Gold was first found on his land, he welcomed and trusted all, and he had many achievements even before the Gold Rush took place

To start with, John Sutter or If you want to call him by his real name Johnann August Sutter was the man who owned the land of gold, who started the California Gold Rush. “John Sutter owned 48,287 acres of land” (The Diary of Johnann August Sutter, 7). When John Sutter was a Mexican trader, he went through a lot, so later in life he built Sutters Fort which was a place for all immigrants and people to stay while traveling in Sacramento (“Diary of John Sutter, 5) And “when Sutter moved to California everyone visited his home for, he was a kind and hospitable man” (New world, 2).
