The major motion picture Grease became the highest grossing on screen musical of the 20th century; and still, now during the 21st century, it continues its legacy as one of the most widely known and loved movies of all time. Almost everyone you meet can tell you they have at the very least seen scenes or heard songs from the famous production. Many of the leading cast members were not going to be in the movie when at first the roles were offered to different actors, including the role of Danny Zuko. John Travolta was lucky enough to land the part, since at first Paramount wanted Henry Winkler to play it. Fortunately, Winkler turned down the opportunity (Magazine). It is the way that Travolta speaks as Danny to Sandy that puts into perspective how Danny truly feels about her. Travolta’s vocal choices even change depending on who he is speaking with while in character. When he’s with Sandy, Travolta’s voice is softer and not as deep, and it even sometimes sounds more excited; for example, when Danny sees Sandy after the football game and all but yells her name excitedly. With his friends, Travolta makes Danny appear more cocky, forcing his voice to sound deeper and throwing in a couple of arrogant laughs here and there; for example, in the same scene mentioned before, Travolta immediately changes his voice and demeanor right after his friends catch his attention. You can see it in Travolta’s acting that Danny, although he may not be the best boyfriend, really does love Sandy. Not only can we see it in the way he talks to her, but also in his facial expressions. In the scene where Danny rejects Sandy for the first time, he gets a certain look in his eyes, as if he is extremely upset with himself, and it’s with that one look, not in his actions, that the audience knows Danny regrets his behavior. Travolta makes us believe in Danny and his intentions toward Sandy in a way that not many other actors may be able to pull
