War is the nightmares of nightmares. War is a con matter situation as most people don’t really side with war. Negative results of war can result in death and trauma. Many people such as Joe are against the war because it leaves a mark on those that are directly involved.(connect with book ) Moreover, the literary effect of flashback locks into the internal development of the characters, identifying the central idea of the book, and Joe’s memories used to recount moments of loss by his memories haunting him and making Joe regret.

Joe states,“I’ve got to know in advance what liberty is and whose idea of liberty we’re talking about and just how much of that liberty we’re going to have”( Trumbo 111). In the novel “Johnny Got His Gun,” written by Dalton Trumbo, gives a great deal of how the politicians will use propaganda to convince you that you are fighting for liberty but as well shows how that propaganda payed off . Joe explains,“Death before dishonor. This ground sanctified by blood. These men who died so gloriously. They shall have not died in vain. Our noble dead. Hmmmm”(Trumbo 115). The quotes determine the propaganda surrounding citizens of a certain country to fight in a war that means nothing to the people but only to the politicians who want something out of it. Ironically, even though those who are directly involved who are convinced in the battle don’t and didn’t realize what they’re really fighting for as they were convinced to fight for something that doesn’t exist. Even though, Joe realizes that he fought for something that doesn’t exist like liberty he also realizes that this freedom is limited. As well, people who are involved in this battle die for the convincing of the country they live in.
