‘Be Music, Night’ by Kenneth Patchen is an intriguing piece of literary art. A picture is painted of human interaction with Earth immediately. The manner in which humans fall into her beauty and vastness is apparent in even the first lines of Patchen’s poem, but why is this important? “Be music, night, That her sleep may go Where angels have their pale tall choirs” This choir is brought on by our musical mother nature.
After leaving the prison, the narrator is invited to see Sony and his band playing music. Sony plays the song pouring out his emotions, and the narrator
As a matter of fact, the storyteller does not appreciate Sonny's motivations to play jazz music until the evening he socially joins Sonny to his stage show at a nightclub. Sitting in a dark corner at the nightclub, the storyteller listens to his brother play, considering the reminder of Sonny's friend, Creole, of what the Blues are about, "The tale, of the blues, how we live, and how we are delighted, how we suffer... and how we triumph... must be heard... it's the only light we've got in all this darkness." (Baldwin 139). For the narrator, he perceives that the Blues is the manifestation for Sonny's emotions, especially his suffering, because, as Creole would say, music is the only light in the
The song “Someone Like You” by Adele would be a great match for Ying-Ying St. Clair’s desire for her daughter, Lena, to have a better marriage in the story, unlike the one Ying-Ying had in China. The song “Someone Like You” could also be used for Rose’s marriage as well. As Lena’s marriage with Harold is going awfully, Ying-Ying’s desire for Lena to have a better life is like the line “I wish nothing but the best for you”, which can also match for all of the mother’s desires throughout the story. However, I think this is the best time to match the theme “desires” with since I believe it is when it is it’s most obvious as she breaks the table so that she can tell Lena to tell her about standing for herself.
Independence, Addiction, and Affliction When it comes to understanding those with mental health disorders, simply hearing them out is one of the best things one can do for them and that’s something Sonny was consistently denied in his life. The brothers were raised in a time of squalor and despair for the majority of Black people, much less the space for anyone to be properly understood beyond a lobotomy, asylum, or prison. Because of this, the Brother and Sonny both developed a great alienation and despair between each other, or as Mr. Duncan puts it, “Baldwin here uses Sonny, who as a musician is uniquely qualified to provide counterpoint, to reveal his brother's emotional deafness…”. (Duncan Learning to Listen to "Sonny's Blues") The Brother seems to prefer to isolate himself, simply keeping Sonny and his group at arm’s length while focusing on his own life.
He sees that Sonny's music is a bona fide reaction to life. He sees that one who makes music is managing the thunder ascending from the void and forcing request on it as it hits the air. He comprehends that his sibling's music is an endeavor to recharge the old human story For while the story of how we endure, and how we are enchanted, and how we may triumph is never new, it generally should be
These following songs affected the bluesman’s vocal and the guitar style in the later centuries. Furthermore, the song "Come On In My Kitchen” in my kitchen was another popular and dominant blues music during the 1920 to 1930s. This song wasn’t like the ones which influence the tone and style of the song, but it totally revealed the impact which was caused by Skip James “Devil Got My Woman”. The lyrics of the song was written as poetry and Robert Johnson sang it with a strained voice to make the tone and the output of the song more nervous. What’s more, another song,”From Four Until Late”, showed that Johnson’s ability in blues style did not only associate with the Delta.
It became real that Sonny actually might be good at this and that this makes him very happy. As Sonny was playing, “Freedom Lurked Around Us” and then the feeling of freedom overtook the atmosphere. Understanding of the pain Sonny went through in life was made clear through the music and the underlying tone to the notes. The past crept up, visions of their mother and father, daughter Grace and wife Isabel’s tears came back in that instant. Tears came to the surface, big brother’s eyes glazed over with the heart aching memories as the music
The description Baldwin uses to describe how the Sonny’s brother was hearing him play for the first time was a realization for his brother and how exactly music makes Sonny feel and how he puts in every bit of emotion into his music. His brother was now realizing how much music played an important role in Sonny’s life and how it helped him out of his
His purpose in writing and performing this song is very simple, to motivate. Despite the record label not wanting to release the song for it being too lyrical and having too deep
When the narrator accompanies Sonny to the nightclub to listen to him play his music; Sonny’s music portrays his wisdom as he plays about his brother’s frustrations with the trials and sufferings they both endured. Sonny’s artful playing of the blues opens the narrator’s heart to listen genuinely. If one listens to what lies on the inside that is the key to finding oneself. Joseph Flibbert states in the article “Sonny’s Blues” Overview, “In the music he hears, he sees his mother’s face, and that of his little girl … The powerful incantations of Sonny’s art reaches his soul, and for the first time, he listens to the dark voice within”.
Killing a human's considered murder, depending on how extensive it is, has different charges; such as: first-degree murder, second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, and involuntary manslaughter. A human has a heartbeat, but so does every living thing. So, what gives people the right to kill something that has a heartbeat but has not been born yet? Under very slim circumstances is it alright to kill something that has not been born yet; however, there are still arguments about abortion and whether it is right or not. Many people find it wrong and some say it is against their religion to abort an unborn child; on the other hand, people think it is the woman's right to choose to keep the child, from a case of rape, incest or health issues threatening the mother's life.
