One minute I’m standing in a crowd of kids waiting for the gang meeting to start, the next minute I'm face first in the dirt. I think about punching the kid that knocked me over but decide not to, I will just bring more attention to myself. These kids have nothing to lose joining this gang, they belong in the gang. It was exactly a year ago that I was them, but I had no clue what I was doing. I can remember every second of that day, the day that changed me forever. It all started in school, I was in the middle of my sophomore year and I was in science. I overheard one of the popular girls talking about how she joined a gang and everyone thought it was so cool. I heard about all the populars joining a gang later during lunch. That was the moment that I decided to join a gang. I wasn’t popular, I was average, like most kids in my school, but I didn’t want to be average, I wanted to be popular. I went home later that day, and searched for the perfect gang. My best friend Sarah came over and I gave her a necklace that I had been waiting to give her. I said that as long as we wore the necklace it meant we would go wherever the other one went.
